Originally from Edmonton, Arlan Vriens has studied, performed, and taught violin and viola across Canada and internationally. He holds a Master of Music in Violin Teaching from Memorial University of Newfoundland, as well as a second Master of Music in Violin Performance from the same institution, a Graduate Performance Diploma from McGill University, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Alberta. Arlan’s foremost priority as a teacher is to create an enjoyable and highly customized experience that brings out the best in every student, respecting their personal interests, learning styles, and goals. He is trained in the Suzuki Method and Royal Conservatory of Music repertoire, and his typical teaching days range from introducing violin to young beginners all the way to preparing students for university music auditions. In addition to his formal training as a violin teacher, Arlan draws knowledge from a successful performance career, which includes past positions as Concertmaster of Opera on the Avalon, Associate Concertmaster of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, and a wealth of competition and scholarship awards. Arlan first came to Sherwood Park Music for lessons as a beginner violinist in 1999, and taught here from 2007 – 2013; he is thrilled to be returning this year!
